When I studied at Toulouse School of Economics, I (and 3 classmates) published an economic paper on Science Pub. We wrote a literature review on log ban policy in developing countries, which took Indonesia and Costa Rica. The log export ban policy was formulated to conserve forest area and trigger growth. However, the log export ban’s effectiveness had been debated among economists. In the paper, we reviewed the log export ban policy using empirical evidence in Indonesia and Costa Rica. Lastly, alternative policies were also discussed, eg: carbon payment schemes.
